Loves Me, Loves me Not

I just watched a brilliant dvd ( that SHine has in our library) it is called Loves Me, Loves Me Not.

This is an Australian documentary of a young girl (Angela Barker) who was a victim of relationship violence. In the documentary her friends, parents, neighbours and friends of the perpertrator are interviewed. Angela herself is unable to speak because of the injuries she suffered.

This would be great to use as preventative stuff with young women and men. BUT it is heart wrenching and brings tears to my eyes.

if you would like to know what he did ill tell you because this is a heart wrenching story that will be told through all out the world

Angela Baker was 16 and her and her boyfriend Dale were together for 2 years. She was a bright, enthusiastic, creative, respectful and popular year 10. When she met Dale, he was all she could talk about but then again she was in love. when ever they broke-up he would buy her things, tell her that her loved her and that he needed her so they could get back together. Thing is he never really meant it because he never did any of those things while they were together. When Angela and her girlfriends go out to have fun Angela would always bring Dale. One night Angela and Dale were having an Argument, Dale was throwing things around and yelling. Angela's neighbor heard the argument and went next door to see if she could help. When she knocked, Angela came running to the door and said "You have to help me, my boyfriend is trying to kill me." The ladies husband then went over but when he tried to tell Dale to calm down Dale punched him in the face. The next day, Angela caught up with one of her girlfriends Lauren and Lauren saw that Angela had bruises on her arm and a black eye. Angela stayed at Lauren's house till she got better which took about two days. It was about 12:30pm when she left Lauren's house and then she went home. She got home to receive a phone call from Dale at about 5:30 that evening. She agreed to meet up. She went to the hill side were she told Dale it was over. Dale started pushing her and shoving her, telling her that she had no right to leave him. 7:30pm came and they were at the park. They were still arguing at and that point Dale had gotten all his anger to the point where he would and did become physically violent. He started to kick, punch and slap Angela all over her body. Once he finished he then grabbed her by the head and smashed it into a steel bench a couple of times, finally while Angela was on the floor barely moving Dale then jumped on her face breaking her jaw..... A local resident went past to see a body lying on the floor and ran back to the nearest supermarket to tell people that there is a body in the park. A lady that works at the supermarket rushed over and called the ambulance. She tried to talk talk to Angela but Angela gave no response and to be honest, the lady from the supermarket didn't even know if Angela was a boy or a girl. Angela was taken to the hospital. Minutes later her parents were contacted and told that their daughter was in hospital. They rushed over to the hospital to find Angela's body all battered and bruised. Years later when Angela was finally let out she was taken straight home. She had to sit in a sling chair for her to be able to stand, she cannot speak, she cannot take a shower alone or go to the toilet alone. Dale was charged and was sentenced to 5 years. Then when Dale's time was all most up, Angela's parents wanted another 2 and a half years which they got.

Dale is now out of jail and is living somewhere in melbourne.

That is how it all happened.
